Learner Story of the Month: August 2018

Name: Mrs T

Project Participated: Childcare Plus Project / Employment Support

Dates: Sep 2016– Dec 2017

Background:

Mrs T came from Bangladesh in May 2015 after marrying her husband.  She had studied up to degree level but was unable to complete her last exams as she came to the UK. After arriving the client said she was ‘bored at home and wanted to learn and make new friends’.  Mrs T first approached the college but was unable to join the course. Then she tried the Idea Store where she was able to enrol on a Level 1 English course and ECDL. She was also offered the chance to volunteer with the tutor as an assistant and support other learners. Although she enjoyed what she was doing, Mrs T was also thinking about her future goals and was seeking something that will take her further.

Journey with Limehouse Project:

Mrs T heard about the CC+ Project from a friend who encouraged her to go and seek more information. She registered and was initially enrolled on the 12 week Capacity Building course. On completion she was reassessed and passed the test to enrol for the CACHE Level 2 in Early Years. She carried out a DBS but was unable to find a suitable nursery to carry out her volunteer placement. She then sought the Project Adviser’s help to secure a placement in a pre-school.

Mrs T was very happy and satisfied with the Limehouse Project service. She said:

“The Project Worker helped me a lot when I needed any support including help with CV.”

During her time with the nursery, she was offered the opportunity to apply for a bank staff role. She again sought help to create a cover letter to apply for the role, which the Project Adviser worked with her to draft.

Outcome and Progression:

The client successfully completed her CACHE Level 2 qualification in Early Years Education and Care (QCF) and is awaiting her certificate. In addition she successfully completed accredited training in Paediatric First Aid and Level 2 Food Safety in Catering.

Mrs T also successfully gained employment with the pre-school. In addition, she was offered the opportunity to become an apprentice and gain her Level 3 qualification in Early Years.
