Muslim Womens Health Initiative

In September 2025, Limehouse Project recruited 25 Muslim Women’s Health Champions to help shape our new two-year Muslim Women’s Health Initiative in Tower Hamlets, funded by Public Health and focused on the Vital 5 risk factors around smoking, high blood pressure, weight management, alcohol, and mental health along with other closely linked issues that local women have told us are a real concern to their health. These are everyday women from across the borough, from long-term residents to newer migrants, coming together to share their lived experience and set priorities for change.

At our first co-production steering group, all 25 women took part in honest conversations about their health and access to health services, from language and stigma to not knowing where to turn. They want services that feel culturally appropriate, faith-sensitive and genuinely welcoming  and they are ready to use their voice to help shape them.

Over the next year, the Champions will take part in ongoing training, so they feel confident talking about health, the Vital 5 and local support on offer. They will be able to share clear information with friends, family and neighbours, and support a healthier community through coffee mornings, workshops, identifying needs and everyday conversations.

These 25 Muslim Women’s Health Champions are women from the community, for the community they are starting a journey to break down barriers and make it easier for Muslim women in Tower Hamlets to get the help they need, in ways that work for them with creative, community‑led ideas for keeping well. Their insights will guide events, workshops, and outreach across the borough, ensuring Muslim women’s needs are at the centre of prevention work in Tower Hamlets.
